Hydrotherapy

FAQs

  • Colon Hydrotherapy is also known as Colonics or Colonic irrigation, involves the gentle infusion of warm, purified water into the colon to help dissolve and eliminate built-up waste, gas, and toxins.

The Colon is the final portion of our digestive tract and is approximately as long as you are tall - around 2 metres. It serves many vital functions beyond waste storage: it absorbs nutrients and vitamins, produces about 95% of the body’s serotonin (the “happy hormone”), and also plays a role in producing Melatonin ( the “sleep hormone’).

Additionally, up to 80% of our immune system resides in the colon, which houses beneficial gut bacteria ( Microbiome) essential for optimal health.

Supporting your colon and ensuring this key elimination pathway functions properly is one of the most important steps you can take to improve your overall health and wellbeing.

  • Each treatment is unique to the individual, and even for the same person, session times can vary. On average, sessions typically include 45 minutes of treatment time, though we recommend allowing up to an hour for your appointment. For those wanting an extended treatment, we also offer longer sessions of up to 90 minutes.

  • Colon Hydrotherapy is not a painful treatment. Most clients find the experience very relieving, therapeutic, and even relaxing.

During your first session, you may feel some mild cramping or slight discomfort as the body begins to release built-up waste and toxins- this feeling usually passes quickly as the treatment progresses.

Many clients leave feeling lighter, clearer, and more energised.

  • It all depends on what issues you are experiencing and what your goals are. We recommend a series of 4 sessions spaced close together to give you the best results to start with, then offer recommendations that are individualised. Some clients keep up with them weekly or fortnightly, while others may have them once a month or a series of sessions every three months. There is no one size fits all approach.

  • Preparation isn’t essential, but here are a few tips to get the most out of your session.

    1. Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate!!!!!! Make sure you are well hydrated so that everything has softened up and is easier for your body to release. Your body won’t release any waste or toxins until it is fully hydrated first.

    2. Fasting for at least 2 hours before your appointment is recommended for best results, although not essential. Not eating close to your treatment takes the pressure off your body so it isn’t trying to digest and release at the same time.

    3. If possible come at a time when you can be fully relaxed and not in a rush. The more relaxed you can be, the better your body is able to release all those toxins. Everything in your session is completely confidential and you’re well taken care of. Pick a time that works for you.

    4. Wear something comfortable, just something that can be removed from the waist down. Don’t worry you are completely covered up with a towel during the treatment.

    5. Come in with an open mind and take away all of the benefits colonics have to offer. Try not to focus on the speculum insert which is not painful just a weird sensation. Don’t let it be the reason to miss out on all the amazing health benefits colonics have to offer.

  • None at all. Some people go back to work or the gym for a workout. However, if it is your first session you can feel exhausted afterward due to large toxic releases, but most people report feeling calmer, energised, lighter, more alert and an overall sense of wellbeing after the toxins have been released. You may need to go to the toilet a couple of times after the treatment, but you won’t have any unexpected accidents.

  • Not at all, in fact, it helps retrain the colon muscles to become stronger. Colonics help strengthen the muscles that make up the colon, helping with the colon’s natural peristalsis contraction movements.

  • Please call or message if you believe you have a contraindication and we can discuss it in more detail if Colonics can be performed. People with certain medical conditions can NOT receive a colon hydrotherapy treatment unless approved by their doctor.
